Almost all Americans I’ve met are still convinced that I’m from England and that there’s no difference between England and Wales.
Saying you love “British accents” is kind of like equating someone from California as having the same accent as someone from New York, or someone from Louisiana having the same accent as someone from Massachusetts.
And no, I don’t sounds like I’m from London. I’ll never agree that England is the “same thing” as Wales and England itself has a lot more to offer that the city of London.
It’s stuff like this that give Americans especially the unfair tag of being thought of as ignorant.
